Overview
June is an associate in our China Practice. Originally from Shanghai, she possesses dual degrees in law and accounting, having distinguished herself by passing the bar examination in mainland China during her undergraduate studies before transitioning to Hong Kong. With a robust legal foundation spanning both Hong Kong and mainland China, she is adept at providing a wide range of legal services, from assisting mainland enterprises with international expansion to facilitating the settlement of mainland clients in Hong Kong.
June has experience working with mainland investors on corporate and commercial transactions, including legal due diligence. June has expertise in handling various immigration matters, including visa applications under the Top Talent Pass Scheme.
June handles dispute resolution matters, including cross-border commercial disputes and provides advice to legally aided persons in civil cases under the Legal Aid Schemes.
June is also involved in the firm’s various first-hand residential property projects, representing major local developers or statutory bodies in the sale of the numerous units.
Before joining our firm and qualifying as a Hong Kong solicitor, June excelled at a local law firm, where she was instrumental in crafting and executing strategic business development initiatives and firmwide programs.
Recent highlights
- Acting for a mainland company to oppose the specific performance of a Property Transfer Agreement (“PTA”) sought by the opposing party, which aims to transfer a property located in the mainland yet the PTA includes a non-exclusive jurisdiction clause favoring Hong Kong courts and is governed by Hong Kong law, and advising client to challenge the jurisdiction of the Hong Kong court, arguing the case should be stayed on grounds of forum non conveniens and the Mocambique rule, which limits jurisdiction over foreign immovable property;
- Acting for a mainland individual to commence a statutory derivative action as the ultimate majority beneficial owner of a company incorporated in Hong Kong (the “Company”), which serves as an intermediate holding company within a group of companies under a PRC company. The action is against three parties, including two PRC law firms appointed as joint liquidators by the PRC court, alleging improper actions regarding the restructuring of the Company;
- Advising a mainland bank as the lender in respect of its financing to a Hong Kong company (the “Company”) as the borrower, by reviewing their loan and guarantee documents in accordance with Hong Kong law and providing a legal opinion in respect of the Company on the matter;
- Representing a legally aided individual, who fell victim to a phone scam, resulting in a substantial loss of HK$600,000 to scammers posing as officials of the mainland authority, in instituting a civil action against both first-tier and second-tier recipients to recover the defrauded funds;
- Acting for a legally aided individual victim, who executed the loan and mortgage documents under misrepresentation and undue influence, to defend against the opposing party’s claim for a debt of HK$3,300,000, where the opposing party commenced these proceedings by originating summons and we successfully convinced the court to convert it into writ, thereby greatly enhancing the client's opportunity for defense;
- Acting for employees referred by the Protection of Wages on Insolvency Fund Board to institute winding-up or bankruptcy proceedings against insolvent employers;
- Acting for one of the largest local insurance companies as the creditor to commence debt recovery actions against debtors and/or assisting client in reaching a full and final settlement with them;
- Acting for a mainland administrator of the deceased who died intestate in mainland, in applying for a grant of Letters of Administration for the deceased’s bank accounts in Hong Kong. This includes advising on a PRC law expert opinion to show that client is in the position to apply for such grant;
- Assisting in the firm’s Housing Authority project which involves the sale of several hundred properties under Green Form Subsidized Home Ownership Scheme to fulfill the home ownership aspirations of Green Form applicants;
- Acting for the property owners under the Civil Servant’s operative Building Society (“CBS”) scheme to sell their CBS flats to Urban Renewal Authority, facilitating the acquisition of CBS properties;
- Assisting Notary Publics appointed by the High Court of Hong Kong and the China-Appointed Attesting Officers to provide attestation and certificate services
