Chun Ip graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong with an LLB and a PCLL. He also earned an LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science with a concentration in competition and intellectual property law, and is currently pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics for Competition Law with King’s College London. Before training at SFKS, Chun Ip trained at an international US law firm, focusing on financial markets practice including corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and banking.
Chun Ip handles on civil litigation cases across a broad spectrum of matters, including general commercial or corporate disputes, competition, and winding-up proceedings. In addition, Chun Ip advises clients on regulatory matters, including investigations by the SFC.
Notable highlights of Chun Ip’s work include:
- Competition: Represented the Hong Kong Competition Commission in initiating proceedings against a monosodium glutamate (MSG) supplier for suspected conduct of resale price maintenance (RPM), being the first ever RPM trial in Hong Kong following the full implementation of the Competition Ordinance.
- Bankruptcy and Insolvency: Acted for multiple employees in bringing insolvency or bankruptcy proceedings against their employers. Notable case include Re Physical Health Centre Hong Kong Limited HCCW 629/2024.
- Regulatory: Represented clients in handling investigations by regulators such as the SFC and HKEX.
- General Commercial Litigation: Represented both defendants and plaintiffs in general commercial or corporate matters.
- Mergers & Acquisitions: Supported M&A transactions through comprehensive due diligence, inspection of corporate documents, and drafting ancillary transaction documents.
- Banking & Finance: Assisted in drafting facility agreements for both lenders and borrowers, as well as ancillary documents such as inter-creditor agreements, mortgages, rental assignments, charges, share pledges and guarantees.
